Feed Your Eyes: Lil Wayne
Let’s hope his only response to THIS VIDEO is “I think the parents of these children need to have a conversation with their kids regarding the music that’s produced for their ears versus music that’s produced for others.”
The Perfect Lunchtime Read My Opinion Edition:
After watching the Youtube Open Letter to Lil Wayne in which a little girl raps/sings her frustrations with Lil Wayne’s derogatory lyrics I couldn’t help but weight in on the situation.
Here’s the truth, with no sugar added:
The parents of these children need to censor the music that they allow their children to listen to. It’s not Lil’Wayne’s fault that he has these thoughts and opinions about women, drugs or violence, a lot of people do. Is it right? A lot of people would say, “Hells no” but does it exist in this beautiful serene world we live in “yes”. If Lil’Wayne stopped rapping about women, sex, violence and drugs someone else would and others already do, right now! Just because Jay-Z gets co-signed by Oprah for writing the book Decoded doesn’t mean his lyrics are righteous. Believe it or not “Big Pimpin’” came after “Hard Knock Life(Ghetto Anthem)”. The reason music and movies have ratings, is so that parents and consumers understand that what they’re about to invest it may or may not be suitable for them. A concerned parent should be able to differentiate appropriate versus inappropriate music for children. If Lil’Wayne rapped about what Justin Bieber sings about and Lauryn Hill rapped about what Kim Kardashians sings about then we wouldn’t have very much to listen to. What I think is really happening is the parents of these children decided to write a song for their kids to sing and direct it at one of the biggest rappers out right now for their own benefit. My message to the parents: You wouldn’t let your kids play in the alley, you’d make sure they stayed in the playground SO don’t let your kids listen to Lil’Wayne, let them listen to Willow Smith and other artists that are their age. There are many child artists to choose from and there are also many different rappers to choose from if you’re fixated on letting your child listen to that genre of music. But don’t put your children in a position that they may not know they’re in. They’re the ones that are going to grow up and learn that they made a diss record to an artist more than half their age. Why not encourage your children to make empowering music for other little girls their age? Calling out Lil’Wayne isn’t going to solve the problem of misogyny in the world, even if it’s coming from a 10 year old girl.
