Is it just me or is hollywood starting to growing at a faster rate than ever before.  The other day someone asked me I thought Chris Hemsworth looked like Brad Pitt and my answer was who’s Chris Hemsworth?  I had no idea who he was, what movie I saw him in or who the tabloids matched him up with as his latest lover.  My friend quickly explained to me that he plays Thor in the upcoming film Thor, uh duh!  My lack of knowledge isn’t because I’m slipping in my pop culture studies, it’s because I’m hanging on to my pop culture past.  I miss the old celebrities of hollywood and by old I mean the 80’s and 90’s. I decided to use the latest and greatest search engine to find out where some of our favorite celebrities are today.  I like to call today’s Perfect Lunchtime Read “Wiki Whaaat?!” 

1.Ralph Macchio aka the real Karate Kid – Sure we saw him on that one episode of Entourage but after that he went back into hiding for a while.  Unless you went back to running his fan page you may not know that in June 2010, Macchio appeared in Funny or Die’s online short, “Wax on, F*ck off”, in which his loved ones stage an intervention to turn the former child star from a well-adjusted family man into an addict besieged with tabloid scandal to help his career. During the video, Macchio reacts to seeing a poster for the 2010 Karate Kid remake. The short was lauded by TV Guide’s Bruce Fretts, who referred to the video as “sidesplitting” and “comic gold”.

2.Lark Voorhies aka Lisa Turtle (Screeches girlfriend on Saved By the Bell) – Voorhies has had several romances with several Hollywood actors and co-stars, including Saved by the Bell co-star Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Zach), whom she dated for three years. Voorhies had a brief romance with and was engaged to American comedy actor Martin Lawrence in 1993. On March 9, 1996, she married actor/producer Miguel Coleman. The marriage lasted for eight years, from 1996 to 2004, at which point the couple divorced.  On 08 May, 2007 She married Andy Prince, they have one child.  And get this she has been rumoured to play Whitney Houston in the Grammy Winning Singer’s upcoming biopic.

3.Danielle Fishel aka Topanga Lawrence (Boy Meets World) - In August 2008, Fishel began hosting The Dish for the Style Network, which satirizes pop culture in a format similar to sister network E! Entertainment Television’s The Soup. Fishel was also on Fuse TV as host of The Fuse 20, and was a guest star on the round table on an episode of Chelsea Lately.  In real life, Fishel dated her Boy Meets World co-star Ben Savage. She also dated former ‘N Sync member Lance Bass, who was her date to her high school prom. She also dated hip hop artist, Michael Barber.

Notables:

·Chuck Norris – Well he’s still a Texas Ranger and a Republican.  On December 2, 2010, he (along with brother Aaron) was given the title honorary Texas Ranger by Texas Governor Rick Perry.

·Patrick Roy (Hockey Goalie) - In May 2009, several unnamed sources reported that Roy was offered the head coaching position with the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche.He turned down the position, but has expressed the possibilities of becoming an NHL level coach in the future.

·Allen Iverson (NBA point guard, 76ers) - On October 26, 2010, Yahoo! Sports reported that Iverson agreed in principle to a two-year, $4 million net income contract with Beşiktaş, a Turkish Basketball League team competing in the second-tier level of European professional basketball, the Eurocup (the competition below the Euroleague level).  The club announced the signing at a press conference in New York City, on October 29, 2010.  Iverson made his debut for Beşiktaş 16 November 2010, in a Eurocup 91-94 loss to Serbian side Hemofarm. Iverson scored 15 points in 23 minutes.  On December 27, 2010, Besiktas players refused to practice over delayed wage payments. It was reported on the same occasion that Iverson’s pay is always on time.  In November 2010, Kate Fagan, a 76ers beat writer for the Inquirer reported that Iverson was “broke” and heavily in debt, “by all accounts except his own”, and that a member of Iverson’s family had perviously contacted NBA teams about a contract for him, as he would not be able to pay that person without a contract.
