The Perfect Lunchtime Read - Behind the Scenes: Valentines Day

Behind the Scenes: Valentines Day

You woke up to breakfast in bed, participated in a little love making, shared a shower, exchanged a few words about love and then skipped to work wearing your best outfit and a huge smile on your face.  This year you’re pro Valentine’s Day because you’re with someone and you get to to reap the benefits.

After work you came home to trails of rose pedals leading to all of the private rooms. Barry White, Ottis Redding and D’Angelo serenade you through your speakers and a dinner that’s never been prepared in your kitchen before sits patiently next to a row of Ikea tealight candles.  A pair of drunken strawberries drowned in two glasses of chilled champagne.  And best of all the house is clean and mess free!

Before you could ask how and when all of this happened your lover shoves a chocolate covered strawberry in your mouth and presses an index finger against your lips while asking you to “hush (child)”.

You’re speechless, partially because you have chocolaty fruit in your mouth but mostly because you don’t understand how or when any of this was done when you both went to work together.  When was there time to go pick up flowers, candles, bubble bath, groceries, cook, tidy up and pick up a thoughtful gift?

The truth of the matter is Valentine’s Day is huge production that involves more people than just your lover.  Each year hundreds of people volunteer their time and effort to make Valentines Day special.  These volunteers remain nameless and don’t receive credit for their tremendous efforts in the name of love.  Here’s a breakdown of the behind the scenes of Valentines Day Celebration from an annonymous lover:

1.Breakfast -  My Mom went grocery shopping and I asked her to pick up some breakfast food that was  easy to cook and pre washed strawberries.

2.     Shared Shower – No person likes shared showers, there’s never enough water, someones always left in the cold and no one ever leaves fully washed.

3.Exchanged words of love, you could thank musiclyrics.com for that.  I went through a couple love songs to find sentences that my lover wouldn’t recognize like “I’ll make love to you, if you want me to and I’ll hold you tight baby, all through the night”.

4.     The Ikea tealight candles were laying around in the house.

5.My best friend who pretends to like my Lover picked out the gift and dropped it off at my workplace.

6.     The dinner is from this restaurant in the food court of my work.

7.Molly Maids cleaned the house and it looks better than its ever looked before.

8.     The flowers were from work, I’m glad we decorate our office.

9.The bubble bath is just dish soap mixed with lavendar lotion.

10. And the chocolate covered strawberries were a gift from an office crush who won’t stop trying to break up my relationship.

Sidenote: Unless your name is Stevie Wonder you shouldn’t be allowed to wear sunglasses to the Grammy’s.
